Creature of habbit

It's pretty incredible how an elephant can stay tied to a relatively small rope and will not break free. For those of you who don't know (Maybe not everyone has seen Water for Elephants) it starts when they are babies.

By the way, don't do a Google search for images on training elephants. It's disturbing and horrible.

The baby elephant has a rope tied to their leg with the other end tied to a stake in the ground. They are left for four hours at a time as they frantically try to get out, but they are not strong enough to pull the stake up. They learn this lesson and assume it's true for the rest of their lives. So, years later when they weigh 8 tons they still assume they can't pull the stake up.

How does this apply to being a dad? I wrote a post earlier about how Paxton is so much like a puppy. Well in this respect he's like a a baby elephant.

Like many other homes, ours is slowly becoming more like a prison as everything starts getting locks and covers in the attempt to keep Paxton alive.

Paxton fought the baby gate for a while. But when it's down, he's our little baby elephant*.

*Disclosure - Not really. He busts into the kitchen every chance he gets. We have to keep the baby gate up.
